Engagement Rings by Zodiac Sign
Not sure which engagement ring style will be just right for you? Take a hint from your sun sign for a look which just might put stars in your eyes.
March 21 – April 19
As the first sign of the Western zodiac, Aries love to stand out and take great pleasure in being number one in all facets of life. They have fiery personalities, which feel right at home as the centre of everyone’s attention. Surely an ultra-rare, red-hot Ruby will do just the trick in turning their (and everyone else’s) heads. Even better? Surround it with Diamonds, so it’s literally in the spotlight.
April 20 – May 20
Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty, so it’s no surprise that they’re known for their impeccable taste. While they have a lust for luxury, the sign of the bull is still down to earth and appreciates classic and even somewhat traditional style. It doesn’t get any more classic and elegant than a Diamond in a stunning Art Deco setting. For an added twist, an Emerald accent would complement their love of nature, and also just happens to be their other birthstone.
May 21 – June 20
As the sign of the twins, Geminis can have two sides to their personalities and with them, it’s often double or nothing. A double-banded ring or a two-stone Toi et Moi ring could be just the ticket, whether the latter is a modern style with two different gemstones, or a more traditional antique look with two dazzling Diamonds. Either way, these are unique looks which will serve these masters of communication perfectly as the ultimate conversation starter.
June 21 – July 22
Cancerians are ruled by the Moon and the element of water, thus they are fittingly sensitive and gentle, with sometimes quickly changing moods. A stunning Blue Sapphire with a medium to lighter tone is calming and water-like, and could perfectly suit the sign of the Crab. As an alternative, a colour-change Sapphire (or other colour-change gemstone) could also offer them the mercurial variety they crave.
July 23 – August 22
Here comes the Sun! The regal and dramatic Leo is the perfect representation of the original Sun King—they’re bold, fashion-forward and love to be the centre of the universe, er, attention. A coloured Diamond, or just a really fabulous colourless Diamond is the order of the day, and in Leo’s books, the bigger the better. If museum-size Diamonds are out of the question, a sun-sized Yellow Sapphire will shine just as bright.
August 23 – September 22
Virgos tend to be practical with a charming sense of innocence. While they’re often thought of as modest, they can also have an impressive attention to detail, especially when it comes to style. While a trending Pearl could appeal to their virtuous side, they’ll likely appreciate the sensibility and timelessness of a quintessential Diamond set in Platinum, as long as it’s set thoughtfully and beautifully (and maybe even in a bezel for those that are particularly on-the-go.)
September 23 – October 22
The second sign of the zodiac ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty, Libras are true aesthetes and appreciate all of the finer things in life. They also have a need to keep things in balance, so a highly symmetrical setting would be key to pleasing their eye. A whiz in finance, an heirloom-quality investment piece which is the height of taste is what the Libra will undoubtedly find most appealing.
October 23 - November 21
The ultimate mysteries of the zodiac, Scorpios are quite alluring in their somewhat dark and secretive nature. They’re often powerful and charismatic, while preferring to keep a part of themselves concealed from the public. Something rare and unique, and maybe even darker in tone, such as an Alexandrite, Ruby or coloured Diamond could be ideal, while a sexy Marquise-cut Diamond or gemstone will undoubtedly appeal to their sultry side.
November 22 – December 21
A bit of a wild child, Sagittarius might be most at home when they’re not at home at all. Worldly and travel-addicted, the Sag is always courting wisdom and adventure, so a gemstone that hails from an ancient part of the world, or a travel spot they have fond memories of will warm their heart. A Yellow Sapphire, which is known as the Jupiter stone in India, will also be appealing since this sign is also ruled by the large-and-in-charge planet.
December 22 – January 19
The Capricorn is grounded and down-to-earth but also strives for success (in the most honest and diligent way possible.) Their ambition to make it to the top means they can be easily lured by status symbols which represent their hard-earned cash. Sustainable, antique pieces will be loved for a lifetime by these old souls, while Emeralds will light up their earthly senses, and of course, their tangible love of money.
January 20 – February 18
As the sign of the future, Aquarius is a bit of an eccentric, and definitely the mad scientist of the group. They’re always going against the grain, so a ring that’s a bit whimsical (not to mention, quite colourful) is likely the piece which will make their heart sing. An ultra-rare Tanzanite or uncommon Tourmaline is a good place to start, but with this sign, you can certainly let your imagination run wild.
February 19 – March 20
Dreamy Pisces is soft, sweet and often searching for tranquility and ultimate peace of mind. A water sign represented by swimming fish, a pastel Pink Sapphire or Aquamarine might be exactly what fills the daydreams of this gentle, feminine sign. Cut into a rounded, soft shape such as an oval or even a romantic heart, these watercolour gems will make a Pisces want to dive in head first.
